Candle Safety for Weddings and Events

Candles create a warm, elegant atmosphere for weddings and events, but open flames require careful consideration. Many venues restrict or prohibit real flame candles due to insurance requirements, fire codes, and safety concerns. Even when allowed, open flames are typically required to be encased several inches inside protective containers. While this reduces risk, it does not completely eliminate the potential for accidents.

Why Open Flames Can Be Risky

Open flame candles can pose hazards near fabrics, décor, and floral arrangements. Guests moving around tables, children running, or elders using walkers or wheelchairs increase the likelihood of accidental contact with flames. A simple bump can lead to burns, smoke, or fire.

LED Candles: A Safe Alternative

For events with children, elderly guests, or large crowds, LED candles are a safe and practical option. They provide the same warm glow and flicker as real flames without any fire risk. LED candles can be used near walkways, staircases, and centerpieces, and they are ideal for venues with open-flame restrictions.

Health and Safety Risks Associated with Candles

Every year human error is responsible for starting a number of candle fires. Candles can be a serious fire hazard if not used properly. Reduce health and safety risks when you burn candles:

• Never leave candles burning with no one in the room.
• Never fall asleep or leave the house with candles burning.
• Never burn candles close to items that can catch fire, like mattresses, bedding, curtains, cabinetry, upholstered furniture, decorations and clothing.
• Never leave burning candles within reach of children or pets

Candles are safe when used responsibly and according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
